San Diego & Orange County Maternity Photographer: Sunsets, Beaches & Beauty

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

There’s always been something different about maternity shoots. They’ve never been the most popular, and we can all understand why. Pregnancy is difficult – bottom line. With the backaches, feet pain, bloating, and all other ailments a pregnant woman might face, she’s not likely to happily hop in front of a camera.

Instead, we see newborn or wedding photos framed proudly throughout homes. Of course, these are all significant stages in our lives shared with people we cherish, but what makes the maternity stage any different?

Why Maternity Photoshoots Are Worthwhile

Pregnancy is inherently intimate. It’s a tale as old as time, and every human being happened because of it. It’s when the mother first gets to know her child as she peers at her slowly growing bump. Soon after, she’ll start to talk and sing to it. Before she knows it, shes’ best friends with the stranger within who accompanies her through her day-to-day life. She does not know them yet, but she already has an unbreakable bond with them. She has fallen madly, dizzily, and unconditionally in love.

And as the bump grows, everything naturally becomes more real. There’ll be a new life that her body nourished, arriving into the world soon, and everything she knew before will change forever.

So, it’s time to reflect. Though those nine long months may be a hectic blur of planning and worrying - they should also be cherished. Almost all mothers look back on moments of their pregnancy/pregnancies fondly, even years down the line (often more so in later years!)

What A Maternity Photo Shoot Offers You

Those moments are precisely what maternity photography intends to capture—the pure, almost unreal aurora of pregnancy. I don’t think there’s any place quite like by the sea for capturing the indescribable essence of the beautiful unknown that comes with pregnancy. The peaceful waves lapping gently against the shore as the sun sets, scattering its dimmed light creating the perfect atmosphere (and backdrop) of serenity.

All that’s left is to include the loving mother with her precious bump, and one-of-a-kind photos can easily be captured.

A Recent Maternity Photography Experience

Recently, I had the great pleasure of shooting photos of a soon to be mom called Ana. Ana took my advice in her stride, completely accepting my dress recommendations for the shoot and the shoot location. Of course, we ended up on a beach in San Diego, CA. Where better? There are guaranteed beautiful weather (almost always) and the beaches aesthetics are unparalleled, simply without compare. Because of this, our shoot was, without a doubt, a pleasant experience - also in thanks to Ana’s natural photogenicity!

Ana’s delighted face when she saw her pictures is just one of the reasons I love doing what I do. I’m looking forward to meeting her precious little bundle and capturing their first professional newborn shots.

And I also do the same for all of my clients. I like to make sure their shoot is tailored to them but also with a touch of expertise to truly capture their joy, wonder, and love for their unborn child. I also offer a wide range of maternity photoshoot gowns for those who aren’t quite sure what to wear. When you’re busy being pregnant, you don’t have time to think about these things! Let me take care of them for you so that you can capture a lasting visual memory of a single precious moment of pregnancy.
